The structural behavior of the monoclinic compound Bi{sub 2}SrO{sub 4} is investigated at high pressures by using Raman scattering and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. The results indicate that a pressure-induced phase transition occurred at 10 GPa and completed at 20 GPa. The high-pressure phase is in orthorhombic symmetry. Upon release of pressure to ambient conditions, the monoclinic phase is recovered.
