A semiclassical method, along the lines of the treatment of the Coulomb excitation process by Alder and Winther, is employed to describe different processes that occur in reactions induced by unstable nuclear beams. This method has been previously shown to yield good agreement with results from full Quantum Mechanics calculations of the breakup channel. We now give a prescription to apply the method to the study of the fusion process and show, in the case of a schematic two-channel example, that it leads to accurate results.
