The Drell-Yan mechanism offers a unique, selective probe of antiquarks in the nucleon. Fermilab E866 used this to explore the origins of the nucleon sea by measuring the ratio of d-bar(x)/u-bar(x) in the proton and by Fermilab E772 to look for the effects of nuclear pions. Both experiments yielded very surprising results. Fermilab has approved a new Drell-Yan experiment, E906, that will investigate both of these results with significantly better resolution and kinematic reach.
