Deep inelastic diffractive scattering, ep {yields} e'{gamma}*p {yields} e'XN, has been studied at HERA with the ZEUS detector in a wide kinematic range in the {gamma}*p centre-of-mass energy W, the photon virtually Q2 and the mass of the system X, MX. ZEUS results on diffraction have been obtained using the MX method and by identifying leading protons which carry a large fraction of the incoming proton beam energy. They are presented in terms of the diffractive cross section, d{sigma}(MX,W,Q2)/dMX and the diffractive structure function, x{sub IP}F{sub 2}{sup D(3)} ({beta},x{sub IP},Q{sup 2})
