The Staged Electron Laser Acceleration - Laser Wakefield (STELLA-LW) experiment at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) will explore the generation of large wakefields by an intense, long-wavelength CO2 laser beam in a capillary discharge plasma. A tool is developed for efficient modeling of the laser-plasma interaction that will allow parametric studies of the wake generation performance. This tool is based on a nearly paraxial model of the laser wave envelope, and a quasi-steady model of the wake potential.
