We investigated the recombination of electrons with ions in an ultrashort, intense laser pulse by numerically solving the time-dependent Schroedinger equation. The inverse above-threshold ionization (IATI) phenomenon, which shows the recombination probability peaked at specific energies of the injected electron wave packet, is explicitly elucidated. Furthermore, these IATI peaks which are separated by the laser photon energy also show up in processes of recombination to excited states.
