It is shown that the discrete Alfven wave induced by the Hall current [S. Ohsaki and S. M. Mahajan, Phys. Plasmas 11, 898 (2004)] is equivalent to the kinetic Alfven wave (KAW). The KAW is, thus, accessible in a fluid description. It is further shown that the dispersion relation for the Hall magnetohydrodynamic waves can be reproduced from kinetic theory only if the ion temperature is negligible compared with the electron temperature.
