The focus of attention at former manufactured gas plant (MGP) sites has shifted from site characterizations to examinations of risks and chosen remediation strategies. Thus, the need to demonstrate and evaluate commercially available full-scale remediation technologies has become increasingly important. This report documents the results from a field test of three technologies for treating groundwater impacted with dissolved organics from MGP site process residues. The three technologies selected for organics removal/treatability testing included: fixed-film bioreactor treatment, fluidized-bed bioreactor treatment, and the use of liquid-phase granular activated carbon (LGAC).
