Five primary electric-dipole transitions in {sup 31}Si account for the bulk ({approx}98%) of the total thermal-neutron capture cross section (107{+-}3 mb) of {sup 30}Si. We have recalculated the partial cross sections for these transitions using direct-capture theory and reliable spectroscopic factors for the (d,p) reaction, which have become available recently. There is good agreement now between theory and experiment. (c) 2000 The American Physical Society.
