We propose a structure model for the Al{sub 72}Ni{sub 20}Co{sub 8} decagonal quasicrystals based on its {tau}{sup 2}-inflated Al{sub 13}Co{sub 4} approximant phase: Applying a 10{sub 5} screw operation on a monolayer obtained from the approximant reproduces almost all features of 2-nm clusters seen in atomic-resolution Z-contrast images of Al{sub 72}Ni{sub 20}Co{sub 8} decagonal quasicrystals. The exception is the central ring, where the symmetry is broken due to chemical ordering of Al and transition metals. By restricting possible overlaps, this enforces the perfect quasiperiodic tiling.
