Measurement of the B{sup 0} and B{sup +} meson masses from B{sup 0}{yields}{psi}{sup (')} K{sub S}{sup 0} and B{sup +}{yields}{psi}{sup (')} K{sup +} decays

Using a sample of 9.6x10{sup 6}BB(bar sign) meson pairs collected with the CLEO detector, we have fully reconstructed 135 B{sup 0}{yields}{psi}{sup (')} K{sub S}{sup 0} and 526 B{sup +}{yields}{psi}{sup (')}K{sup +} candidates with very low background. We fitted the {psi}{sup (')}K invariant mass distributions of these B meson candidates and measured the masses of the neutral and charged B mesons to be M(B{sup 0})=5279.1{+-}0.7[stat]{+-}0.3[ syst] MeV/c{sup 2} and M(B{sup +})=5279.1{+-}0.4[stat]{+-}0.4[ syst] MeV/c{sup 2}. The precision is a significant improvement over previous measurements. (c) 2000 The American Physical Society.
