The No. 3 boiler of Baiyanghe power plant which was designed for coal had been shifted to fire heavy oil since it was built up in 1971. Because of commercial reasons, the 230 t/h boiler was retrofitted to substitute coal water slurry (CWS) for oil in 1996. CWS was fired successfully in the power station boiler, which was the first example in China. It has performed in continuous operation for over 10,000 hours.
