An experimental study of natural convection in the composed rectangular-parallelogrammic enclosure

Conference ·
OSTI ID:20026729

Experimental investigations are performed for natural convective heat transfer in a composed rectangular-parallelogrammic enclosure. The experiments covered with different modified Grashof numbers, Gr*, in the range of 9.60 {times} 10{sup 9} {approximately} 1.40 {times} 10{sup 10}. Those also covered with the various inclination angles of the parallel portions of insulated walls, {phi}, of 15{degree}, 30{degree}, 45{degree}, and 60{degree}. The air-filled enclosure consists of vertical heat source and sink walls, and adiabatic plates at the top and bottom walls. With the constant geometrical aspect ratios, the influences of these inclination angles on the heat transfer rate are thoroughly investigated. Also, the effects of guide vane installed in a composed enclosure and dimensionless channel depth, d*, are studied to find the enhancement of heat transfer of inner diode to a certain extent. Experimental results are given as plots of Nusselt number versus the inclined angles and dimensionless channel depth. Correlation formulas are prepared for the Nusselt number as a function of {phi}, Gr*, and d*.
