This project identifies research opportunities related to the use of natural gas by the steel industry in response to future environmental trends, issues, and regulations. An analytical methodology was developed that combines the techniques of management simulation and scenario analysis. Draft future scenarios were presented to a workshop of steel industry executives and others knowledgeable about steelmaking. The workshop participants were asked to propose management initiatives in response to the operating environment depicted in their assigned scenarios. They were also asked to identify information and technology gaps related to the steel industry`s future use of natural gas.
