Carbon dioxide capture in IGCC plant using CO shift convertor and conventional acid gas removal

Conference ·
OSTI ID:20019100
At present, oxygen-blown integrated coal gasification combined-cycle power generating (IGCC) system has been almost developed as a high efficiency power generating plant. Synthesis gas from coal gasifier to gas turbine contains mainly CO, H{sub 2}, CO{sub 2} and H{sub 2}O. In IGCC plant, CO{sub 2} can be easily captured from synthesis gas stream by using CO shift conversion and a conventional acid gas removal processes. The overall thermal efficiency and the water consumption of such IGCC plant with CO{sub 2} capture are mutually related with the ratio of CO{sub 2} capture. The overall thermal efficiency of the IGCC plant of which CO{sub 2} emission is about 10% of the emission of a base IGCC plant without CO{sub 2} capture is 7% to 8% points lower than that of an IGCC plant without CO{sub 2} capture. However, when the ratio of CO{sub 2} capture is about 55%, the reduction of the thermal efficiency can be controlled to less than half of the above without the development of the new technologies.
