Title: Effect of mechanical surface treatments on fatigue performance of titanium alloys

Generally, mechanical surface treatments induce high dislocation densities in near-surface regions. Due to the local plastic deformation, residual stresses are developed and the surface topography is changed. The effect of these parameters on the fatigue performance after shot peening is illustrated for Ti-6Al-4V. Results on the influence of shot peening and roller-burnishing on {alpha}-, ({alpha}+{beta})- and metastable-{beta}-alloys are compared and contrasted.
