Reaction between the Y{sub 2}Ba{sub 5}(Sn{sub 3{minus}y{minus}z}Cu{sub y}Pt{sub z})O{sub x} and the liquid phase during the texture growing of YBCO
SnO{sub 2} nanopowder and Sn-based compounds were used by many researchers to improve the superconducting properties of melt-textured YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 6+{delta}}/Y{sub 2}BaCuO{sub 5} composite (YBCO). The authors found that Y{sub 2}Ba{sub 5}(Sn{sub 3{minus}y{minus}z}Cu{sub y}Pt{sub z})O{sub x} is one of the final compounds in the samples. Employing the differential thermal analyses (DTA) and Scanning Electronic Microscope (SEM) equipped with the energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), they also studied the effects of such compound on a Y{sub 2}Ba{sub 5}Sn{sub 1.5}Cu{sub 0.5}PtO{sub 13.5} added YBCO sample. They found that the Y{sub 2}Ba{sub 5}Sn{sub 1.5}Cu{sub 0.5}PtO{sub 13.5} reacted with the YBCO liquid and reduced the coarsening of Y{sub 2}BaCuO{sub 5} particles. The YBa{sub 3}Sn{sub 2{minus}x}Cu{sub x}O{sub 8.5{minus}x} phase and a small amount of the Ba{sub 4}Cu{sub 2{minus}x}Pt{sub 1+x}O{sub y} were found. The reaction mechanism is also discussed.
