A new approach: Focused pollution prevention at Tinker AFB
Over the past seven years, Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) has met the challenges and goals originally established for the Pollution Prevention (P2) program. Today the Department of Defense (DoD) ranks nationally among the top 10 reducers of toxic air emissions. Additionally, the new DoD initiatives involving downsizing and privatization have caused bases to re-think the role of Pollution Prevention in weapon system maintenance, by using P2 as a tool to eliminate regulatory burdens. The philosophy is being called Compliance Through Pollution Prevention or CTP2. The CTP2 concept is not clearly defined and has a different meaning to nearly everyone. This paper discusses how the CTP2 concept was implemented at a large industrial complex, such as Tinker Air Force Base (TAFB).
