Pipeline efficiency and integrity assessment through cleaning and in-line tool inspection

Pipeline efficiency and integrity are critical factors in the cost effective and prudent operation of a gas transmission company. Factors that hinder efficiency are deposits such as sand, silt, glycol, oil, and iron sulfide, which adheres to the pipe wall. These factors are directly related to friction loss; therefore, more expenses are incurred in compression fuel consumption. Through thorough cleaning, three objectives can be achieved. The first objective is to clean the system for increased efficiency; the second is to thoroughly inspect the system for assurance of pipeline reliability by using a smart pig in-line tool, and the third objective is to implement an effective rehabilitation plan to ensure future integrity of the system.
