Creep of mechanically-alloyed NiAl containing 13 vol% Mo or Mo{sub 2}C dispersoids

Conference ·
OSTI ID:20001666

Dispersion-strengthened nickel aluminide NiAl was synthesized by reactive mechanical alloying from elemental powders. The microstructure and creep properties of these materials was compared for two cases: (1) NiAl-Mo, where dispersoids are a brittle, ceramic phase. Also, the effect of annealing treatments which coarsened both matrix grains and dispersoids was investigated. Inhibited diffusional creep is identified as the rate-controlling creep mechanism.
