A presentation covering the work done by the C430 Department at Idaho National Lab on thermal concerns for extended dry storage of aluminum clad spent nuclear fuel (ASNF). Computational fluid dynamics software Star CCM+ was used to model hypothetical accident conditions applied to a dry storage configuration containing ASNF. The hypothetical accident conditions being examined were a fire in which the dry storage configuration is fully engulfed in flames and a situation in which the vent ports of the overpack are completely blocked.
