This paper examines the long-term weather resistance of exterior masonry walls having an inner wythe of concrete masonry and an exterior wythe of clay brick and brick header bonding courses. The walls are commonly damages from the combined effects of the material properties, poor construction practices, structural behavior of the building, and normal weathering. The damage may allow water penetration and cause wall instability that is not easily detected. Topics discussed include factors causing damage, diagnostic methods, and repair techniques.
