High Purity 6-inch+ Diameter Single Crystal Germanium Wafers for Dark Matter CCD Photon Detectors

The goal of this Phase II project is the development of a reliable and repeatable high-purity germanium crystal-growth process capable of producing HPGe crystals and polished semiconductor CMOS quality HPGe germanium wafers to accommodate the manufacture of 150-mm standard-sized germanium CCDs for Dark Energy/Matter telescopes. The improved germanium-CCD infrared sensitivity will provide observation of red-shift data on the largest possible number of astronomical objects. This change from silicon to germanium CCDs will roughly double the size of the observable universe.
