Tensor analyzing powers for D(d,p){sup 3}H and D(d,n){sup 3}He at very low energies

Angular distributions of the tensor analyzing powers A{sub zz}, and A{sub xx}-A{sub yy} for the fusion reactions D(d,p){sup 3}H and D(d,n){sup 3}He have been measured at bombarding energies of 25, 40, 60, and 80 keV. These measurements were made using the atomic beam polarized ion source at the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory. The results for the two reaction channels were found to be quite similar, which agrees with conclusions by other researchers. As recently reported, these data have been included in a global R-matrix analysis of the {sup 4}He system. The authors have concluded that entrance-channel quintet-S states are important in both reactions. This result has implications for proposed {open_quotes}neutron-lean{close_quotes} fusion.
