Baryon Properties in the Combined 1/Nc and Chiral Expansions

In this talk I am going to analyze an effective theory for baryons combining the 1/Nc and chiral expansions of QCD. In the first part of the talk, masses and axial couplings are studied to one-loop in the effective theory and by analyzing LQCD results, we will see that the spin-flavor approximate symmetry, consequence of the large Nc limit in baryons, plays a very important role in the real world with Nc = 3 [1]. The possibility of performing LQCD simulations at varying number of colors represents a new tool for understanding key aspects of hadron physics [2]. A discussion concerning the rigorous definition of the 1/Nc expansion in terms of the renormalization group and its use to extract relevant information from these new simulations is given in the second part of the talk. Finally we apply the effective theory to study pion-Nucleon scattering at one-loop. [1] Baryon Masses and Axial Couplings in the Combined 1/Nc and Chiral Expansions A.Calle Cordon and J.L. Goity.
