The Canadian Research on Exposure Assessment Modeling (CREAM) pilot studies were conducted during the winter and summer of 1992 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In the pilot studies, personal, indoor, and outdoor samples were collected using passive ozone (03) samplers. Personal 03 samples were taken from 89 participants from 50 different households. Indoor 03 samples were taken from participants` homes and work places and a variety of non-residential buildings. Outdoor O{sub 3} samples were collected by placing passive samplers outside participants` homes. Outdoor O{sub 3} concentrations also were monitored simultaneously by continuous monitors at the 21 stationary ambient monitoring sites operated by the Ministry of Environment throughout Metropolitan Toronto, Central Ontario, and Hamilton. The performance of the passive sampler is evaluated for various weather conditions and various applications. Spatial variation of outdoor O{sub 3} concentrations is examined using standardized scores and analysis of variance (ANOVA) techniques. Factors affecting O{sub 3} outdoor spatial variation, indoor O{sub 3} concentrations, and personal O{sub 3} exposures are examined. A personal O{sub 3} exposure model is developed by using home outdoor, home indoor, work place, and other microenvironmental O{sub 3} concentrations.
