Radiation damage is the most important critical issue for application of graphite as a plasma facing material. In previous works it has been shown that the thermal conductivity of graphite is reduced to around 1/10 of the initial value after the irradiation of as small as 1/10 dpa, while hydrogen retention increased by several factors. Both make ITER design very difficult and improvement of the tolerance to the neutron irradiation is urgent task for developing a fusion graphite. However little has been known for the relation between the changes of micro-structure and the material parameters important in fusion environment. In the present work, based on the authors previous works, they have discussed the relation of damage structure and the degradation of thermal conductivity and increase of hydrogen retention.
