Structural diversity in lanthanide phosphido complexes. Formation and x-ray crystal structure determination of an unusual dinuclear phosphido complex of divalent samarium: [(Me{sub 3}Si) {sub 2}P]Sm[{mu}-P(SiMe{sub 3}){sub 2}]{sub 3}Sm(thf){sub 3} .C{sub 7}H{sub 8}

The dinuclear phosphido complex of divalent samarium [(Me{sub 3}Si){sub 2}P]Sm[{mu}-P(SiMe{sub 3}){sub 2}]{sub 3}Sm (thf){sub 3} (1) can be readily made from SmI{sub 2}(thf){sub 2} and 2 equiv of KP-(SiMe{sub 3}){sub 2} in tetrahydrofuran solution. The unusual molecular structure of complex 1 in the solid state is discussed. 18 refs., 1 fig.
