Slot cutting technology is currently being developped. Already some of the elements are in operation. So far, while using that technology, five dam-cuttings have been done. Our first worry was to ensure the sealing of the cut itself; therefore special sealing cells have been designed and installed in a precise location in the cut. That technology has been developped by Hydro-Quebec employees. The drilling technology necessary to garantee the proper installation of the cells has also been developped at Hydro-Quebec. Controlled drilling and hole enlargement by over boring remain the fondamentals for this part. In most cases diamond cable saw cutting was used opening 12mm wide slots. Furthermore in a particular case, 50mm wide slot was carried out using a different method.
