Comprehensive program for development of DA/DSM technology at Vattenfall, Sweden`s largest distribution company group
The Swedish government has proposed a bill for deregulation of the Swedish distribution market which will facilitate for the customers to choose to purchase electricity from the producer or supplier offering the best terms. It is anticipated the opening-up of the market for distribution will proceed in several distinct steps commencing in 1994/95. Vattenfall (formerly the Swedish State Power Board) is the major distribution company group in Sweden with 650,000 customers at 20 distribution subsidiaries all over the country. Vattenfall and its distribution companies have recognized the commercial impact of utilizing DA/DSM technology on a deregulated market where competition between distributors will become reality. In this context Vattenfall has recently commenced a development program for demonstrating the possibilities of the technology for increasing competitiveness. The objectives of the DA/DSM development program are to: (1) demonstrate increased efficiency and competitiveness by utilizing modem information technology; (2) deploy extensive knowledge of the possibilities of DA/DSM technology at all of Vattenfall`s distribution subsidiaries; and (3) facilitate successive introduction of mature information technology at Vattenfall`s distribution companies. The program is dealing with a variety of technical and administrative topics such as two way communication with customers, development of new services to customers, fault diagnostics, development of flexible customer information and billing systems, development of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Customer Information Systems (CIS) and engineering systems, etc.
