Modeling distribution automation

Conference ·
OSTI ID:192069
This paper describes a methodology for modeling automated distribution systems. The objectives in developing such a methodology are: to support Distribution Automation feasibility studies with a powerful tool for the analysis of specific distribution systems which reflects the complexity of the actual operating conditions, and to define and plan distribution automation pilot and wide-scale implementation projects. The methodology developed comprises the following subjects: nodal load modeling in distribution, circuit topology modeling in distribution, fault isolation and service restoration in distribution, co-ordinated optimal voltage, var, and load control, and feeder reconfiguration in distribution, co-ordination of the distribution automation with the objectives of the transmission and generation systems. Conclusions and recommendations are presented.
