New IFP technologies for reformulated fuels

Conference ·
OSTI ID:192060

Several new technologies involving the reformulation of automotive fuels are presented in this report. Gasoline reformulation is underway in the major industrialized countries. Unlike methanol, ethanol is a renewable fuel, provided through agriculture, and is one of the potential additives in gasoline blends which can result in lower emissions for automobiles. The synthesis and production of MTBE, ETBE, and other oxygenates and ethanol is described in detail. There is also a discussion on the reduction (management) of benzene in automotive fuels, catalytic reforming, and sulfur and olefins control in gasoline.
