Dr. Cecil Lubitz passed away on March 5, 2021 at his home in upstate New York. A graduate of the Class of 1945 from the Naval Academy, Cecil served in the US Navy until 1947 after which he earned a MS in electrical engineering (1949) and a PhD in Physics (1960) from the University of Michigan. Following graduate school, Cecil came to work at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) on applied nuclear physics in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP). Cecil worked at KAPL for 54 years and had an impactful career with many substantial contributions to the NNPP, national and global nuclear data communities.
