Two-Fifth Resonance Islands Generated by Sextupoles
- Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL), Batavia, IL (United States)
We derive the Hamiltonian which describes a system under the action of the isolated nonlinear resonance $$\frac{2}{5}$$ generated by the sextupole term x3. This is accomplished by successive canonical transformations. Expressions for the island width and the island tune are given in terms of the sextupole configuration. Because of the large influence of the third-integer resonance, we have this resonance included also in the analysis. The validity of this calculation is checked against single particle tracking calculation and the results are satisfactory.
