In-line inspection of unpiggable natural gas pipelines. Topical report, August 1994-August 1995

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:189893
This report discusses current limitations of the applicability of in-line inspection (ILI) devices to certain existing natural gas pipelines. These pipelines, termed unpiggable pipelines, are usually older and contain structures which prevent the passage of ILI pigs. This report describes the investigation to determine the extent of domestic unpiggable pipelines and to review possible solutions. First, a survey of pipeline companies was performed to access the reasons for unpiggable lines. A second survey of ILI companies evaluated the state-of-the-art of ILI systems and the limitations thereof.
