The experimental investigation carried out in the TFE (thermionic fuel element) of the thermionic power plant (TPP) ``TOPAZ-2`` showed that in the single-cell TEC with a nonuniform heat release and extended electrodes the addition of inert gases into the interelectrode gap (IEG) resulted in a considerable (up to 40 % and more) increase in its electrical power and in some cases in its efficiency increase. Report represents the result of these experiments and their discussion.
