The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) sponsored a peer review group composed of recognized national and international experts in reactor safety to review NUREG-1150. The conclusions and recommendations were published in NUREG-1420, dated August 1990. The Kouts Peer review Committee recommended that a residual boundary or event families and plant damage states with accident scenario frequencies below about 10{sup minus 7}/yr should be neglected in probabilistic risk assessment. This concept should have an impact on the NRC review of the CANDU 3U for a final design approval and standard design certification.
