  1. Los Alamos National Lab., NM (United States)
The Medical Radioisotope Program has been one of the more visible and successful ongoing programs at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). It has utilized the unique capabilities of the laboratory`s facilities and staff to respond to a well-recognized national need. There are hundreds of external users in industry, research institutions, the medical community, academia, and government who either purchase radioisotopes or collaborate with experts in this program. Radioisotopes are produced using the proton beam from the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF). Irradiated targets are transported 4 miles from the LAMPF to the hot cell facility for chemical processing.
