Industrial Chemical Production by Chemo-Nuclear Processes with Special Reference to the Production of Fixed Nitrogen

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/1863097· OSTI ID:1863097
An examination has been made of the characteristics and feasibility of the direct use of a nuclear reactor for production of industrial chemicals. The literature indicates a lack of data applicable to the design of such a so-called industrial chemo-nuclear process. Data currently available on the conversion of nitrogen and oxygen to nitrogen dioxide, although, inadequate, do permit preliminary design and evaluation of a potential chemo-nuclear process for production of fixed nitrogen, using fission fragment recoil energy.
