A coincidence radon/thoron counter has been developed for the measurement of low A radon ({sup 222}Rn) and thoron ({sup 220}Rn) concentrations. Thoron discrimination is based upon detection of the near coincidence of the {sup 220}Rn-{sup 216}Po alpha decay pair. The complete system consists of a flow-through scintillation cell viewed by a photomultiplier, an electronic circuit for determining the coincidence alpha decays, and a two-channel data- logger for storing data. Statistical analysis is used to correct for accidental alpha decay pairs. Two scintillation cells, 0.82 L and 1.4 L in volume, have been tested.
