The UNDP/RCA/IAEA Programmes are involving Member States in the Asia Pacific Region in projects to develop and increase the use of nuclear technologies. The efforts have already increased the level of awareness amongst the Region`s scientists, engineers, technologists, and decision makers and has provided significant training to the scientists and engineers to enable them to play a role in technical backstopping at a national level. A new project has been started in 1993 and this will seek to expand the contribution of the nuclear technologies into further industrial and environmental fields. Much of the success of the programmes is credited to the high level of regional co-operation and collaboration brought about under the scope of the Regional Co-operative Agreement (RCA) for Research, Development and Training related to Nuclear Science and Technology in Asia and the Pacific.
