The accelerated oxidation of 2-methyl-2-propanethiol by ethanethiol was discovered first through the kinetics study of homogeneous catalyst cooxidation of mixed 2-methyl-2-propanethiol and ethanethiol. A mechanism which conforms well to the experimental results was proposed, and the derived rate law follows the two-substrate Michaelis-Menten equation. Discussion is presented for the industrial sweetening operation in view of the mechanism.
