In the frame of the decommissioning and dismantling activities of the German Pilot Reprocessing Plant Wiederaufarbeitungs-Anlage Karlsruhe (WAK) approximately 80 m{sup 3} of liquid High Active Waste Concentrate (HAWC) have to be vitrified for medium term interim storage and final disposal. Based on environmental and economic aspects, a project is in progress, which has the objective to transport the HAWC from the WAK site to the PAMELA vitrification plant of the Belgoprocess site in Dessel, Belgium. The actual technical status of the project and licensing situation, the basic plant and cask design, as well as the corresponding full scale test results on the component design are described.
