Management of low- and intermediate level radioactive wastes in Russia: Present status and outlooks
- V.G. Khlopin Radium Inst., St. Petersburg (Russian Federation)
The plan for low-level and intermediate-level radioactive management in Russia focuses on the following: (1) instrumentation of radiochemical enterprises, (Chelyabinsk, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk) by technological complexes for solidification of low-level and intermediate level liquid radioactive wastes, and conditioning of solid radioactive wastes; (2) liquidation of open storages for sludges; (3) widening the number of facilities for vitrification of liquid intermediate-level radioactive wastes; (4) deep injection of liquid low-level and intermediate-level radioactive wastes into geological formations will be removed from service; (5) instrumentation of all NPPs by complexes for treatment of liquid and solid radioactive wastes; and (6) performance of initial management on decommissioning of NPPs and research reactors.
