To improve the performance, reliability, and safety of Li-ion batteries, new advanced materials need to be integrated into the cell design. Specifically, the DOE roadmap recognizes the importance in the automotive industry of the development of new electrolytes with improved electrochemical and thermal stability for advance cathodes with higher operating voltages, higher energy density, and reduced cost.
