The Hijiori HDR site is located on the southern edge of the two-kilometer-diameter Hijiori caldera, which was formed about 10,000 years ago. Topographic effects extend underground, and the prevalence of fracture groups has a strike in the east-west direction and a dip to the north side with a high angle. The underground system of the Hijiori test site has two man-made reservoirs and four wells. In FY 1991, a three-month circulation test was carded out at the 1800-m-deep reservoir using a multi-well system comprising one injection well and three production wells. At an injection rate of about 17 liters/sec, water loss was about 20% and extracted energy was estimated as 8.5 MW thermal. After the circulation test of the 1800-m-deep reservoir, we planned a long-term circulation test through a deeper and larger reservoir. In FY 1992, a 2200-m-deep reservoir was made by water injection into HDR-1. In FY 1993, HDR-3 was deepened to connect with the reservoir, and in FY 1994 HDR-2 was deepened.
