Title: Deformation and failure of braided composites

The tensile and compressive stress-strain properties of braided glass fibre tubes have been measured. The stiffness, strength and energy absorption capacity are sensitive to the details of the helix angle, matrix properties and to the presence of a central core in the tube. Simple analytical models are used to describe the deformation and fracture properties, and to estimate the ideal composite for maximizing absorbed energy.
