VRuTe is half-Heusler structured and crystallizes in the cubic F-43m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. V is bonded to four equivalent Ru and six equivalent Te atoms to form a mixture of distorted face and corner-sharing VTe6Ru4 tetrahedra. All V–Ru bond lengths are 2.63 Å. All V–Te bond lengths are 3.04 Å. Ru is bonded in a body-centered cubic geometry to four equivalent V and four equivalent Te atoms. All Ru–Te bond lengths are 2.63 Å. Te is bonded in a 10-coordinate geometry to six equivalent V and four equivalent Ru atoms.
