Ce(ZnGa)2 crystallizes in the tetragonal I4/mmm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Ce is bonded in a 8-coordinate geometry to eight equivalent Zn and eight equivalent Ga atoms. All Ce–Zn bond lengths are 3.26 Å. All Ce–Ga bond lengths are 3.39 Å. Zn is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to four equivalent Ce, one Zn, and four equivalent Ga atoms. The Zn–Zn bond length is 2.40 Å. All Zn–Ga bond lengths are 2.57 Å. Ga is bonded to four equivalent Ce and four equivalent Zn atoms to form a mixture of distorted corner, edge, and face-sharing GaCe4Zn4 tetrahedra.
