Well Casing Baseline Analysis for the West Hackberry Strategic Petroleum Reserve Site
- Sandia National Lab. (SNL-NM), Albuquerque, NM (United States)
This report analyzes the data from multi-arm caliper (MAC) surveys taken at the West Hackberry SPR site to determine any casing deviations from the as-built drawings. Radial arm data from MAC surveys were used to calculate the approximate wall thickness of each well. Results from this study indicate that well casings can have larger or smaller internal diameters which can lead to thinner or thicker wall thicknesses, respectively. Wells 009B, 106A, 109, and 115 exhibit potentially dangerous deviances from the as-built drawings as some casings have thinner, and therefore weaker, well walls. In addition, the only well surveyed more than once, WH 011B, shows inconsistent data between surveys. Additional analysis is suggested to determine the accuracy and repeatability of MAC surveys.
